John Dickinson and his silk-thread paper
Stamp collectors know about John Dickinson because of his silk-thread paper, used initially for Mulready envelopes. But there’s a bigger story than that. Buying his first mill in 1809 he expanded rapidly through smart business practice and technical innovation. This presentation will look at the company during his lifetime, including the invention and use of silk-thread paper, followed by a brief look at what happened to the company after his death, and at some of the 20th century philatelic aspects of Dickinson’s.
